Thorn Loghting delivered World-Class Lighting solution for an Iconic Skiing Event.
The Flexenarena in Zürs, Austria, hosted the Alpine World Cup for the first time in 26 years, requiring a state-of-the-art floodlighting system to ensure optimal visibility for athletes and live TV broadcasts. The key challenge was to deliver high-performance, energy-efficient lighting that met strict broadcasting and environmental standards while allowing flexible control for different usage scenarios.
Precision-Engineered Lighting for Maximum Performance
Thorn Lighting provided a turnkey solution featuring 225 Altis floodlights installed on 12 poles along the 375-meter piste. The luminaires were carefully positioned to deliver uniform vertical illuminance of at least 1,200 lux, meeting European and Austrian lighting standards while minimising glare and light pollution. The installation also included temporary lighting in the finish area for enhanced visibility during competitions.
Advanced Technology for Sustainable and Adaptive Lighting
Altis floodlights feature patented optics for flicker-free illumination, ensuring optimal conditions for athletes and high-quality TV broadcasts. The system is controlled via Zumtobel’s LITECOM, allowing lighting levels to be adjusted via smartphone or tablet for different events, from World Cup races to training sessions. This adaptive approach optimises energy efficiency, reduces environmental impact, and supports fair competition conditions.
"With Thorn’s Altis floodlights, the Alpine World Cup in Zürs delivered flawless visibility for athletes and live broadcasts while maintaining eco-friendly lighting standards."
