Modernising Workspace Lighting for Better Efficiency

Morgan Sindall, a leading UK construction and infrastructure company, sought to modernise the lighting in its Rugby head office. The building, originally constructed in 1973 and housing around 230 employees, had outdated fluorescent lighting that remained untouched during a previous refurbishment. The goal was to improve lighting quality while reducing energy and maintenance costs.
A contemporary office features a glass-walled meeting room next to open workstations with computers and office chairs. The layout is open and airy, with plenty of natural and artificial light.

Energy-Efficient and User-Friendly Upgrade

Thorn Lighting delivered a comprehensive retrofit solution using modern LED technology across all areas of the building. From open-plan offices to stairwells, kitchens, and the car park, the project aimed to enhance visual comfort, efficiency, and safety. Easy-to-retrofit fittings allowed for smooth integration without major structural changes.

Smarter Illumination, Less Waste

  • Omega PRO LED: Sleek, glare-controlled panel lights with a long 50,000-hour lifespan, perfect for offices and meeting rooms.
  • Chalice LED: High-efficiency downlights delivering uniform light and reduced glare, ideal for breakout areas.
  • PopPack LED: Fast-install battens providing up to 67% energy savings, used in kitchens and stairwells.
  • AreaFlood: High-performance floodlights offering precise exterior lighting and increased security in the car park.
  • ForceLED: Robust luminaires with a prismatic diffuser that improved visibility in the parking undercroft.

"Since changing we have noticed an overall improvement in the quality of the lighting throughout the building and to the exterior, making it a brighter, more pleasant work space. Additionally, the switch to Thorn’s LED luminaires will provide financial savings in terms of energy and maintenance."
