New LED lantern satisfies customer demand for simple, cost-effective road lighting

Thorn Indra is a budget-friendly LED road lantern developed to meet and satisfy customers’ growing demand for white light, application performance, energy management and glare control.  Designed for use with high-efficiency in either 49W (3800 lm) or 98W (7800 lm) configurations, the distinctly shaped lantern incorporates a flat enclosure optic within a sleek grey canopy and is just right for use on strategic routes, subsidiary roads and residential streets (up to lighting classes ME3/S5). The optic eliminates upward light above the horizontal plane (ULOR = 0%).
The lantern is remarkably flexible, integrating a dimming system to optimise energy used and permitting post-top or side entry mounting, and allows the user to select +/-15° tilting to match the light distribution to the geometry of the road. It is also possible to specify photocell.

The construction of the heat sink is such that optimised heat dissipation is obtained to extend the life time of the LED modules (>60,000 hrs, L70, 25°C Ta). The heat-generating LED modules are in direct contact with the aluminium canopy and separated from the LED driver and electronic components. Both the heat sink and optic are protected to prevent the gathering of dust and insects and contoured to maximise airflow and minimise wind loading.

In most applications use of Indra will not only provide lighting more efficiently and cost-effectively than before, and in an environmentally sustainable manner, but also - because of its low profile and clean lines – offer a timeless appearance.
