A new world of energy saving with Chalice 190 LED

At a time when energy conservation is in everyone’s mind, Thorn has introduced Chalice 190 LED, the first true LED replacement for conventional compact fluorescent (TC-DEL) downlights up to 2x26W. Used with a selection of fixed or replaceable LED modules (switchable or dimmable) in 1,100 and 2,000 lumen packages, the recessed downlight comes with a consistent colour (CRI 80) in a choice of colour temperatures (3000K and 4000K).

Operating at only 13.1W the 1,100 lumen (fixed LED module, neutral white) Chalice compares with 1x13/18/26W and 2x13W TC-DEL downlights. And even more striking, the low power consumption of the 2,000 lumen (fixed LED module, neutral white) offer - 26.3W - replaces 2x18/26W TC-DEL downlights.

These performances stem from a combination of high efficiency LEDs, advanced reflector design and passive heat-sink cooling. Computer modelled reflector design uses a breakthrough texture coating layer to improve vertical illuminance, while passive cooling prevents parasitic power consumption and avoids the use of extra components whose malfunction may impact performance.

The fixed and future-proof replaceable (Twist) LED modules deliver 50,000 and 25,000 hour lifetimes respectively (L70@ Ta25˚) thus saving on maintenance costs.

With a similar cut out diameter and light distribution to traditional fluorescent downlights the range maintains an attractive aesthetic, perfect for refurbishments, and there is a full range of attachments, including an IP44 seal for humid environments.
