Thorn Lighting Let The KIds Play In August of this year the 45th International Children's Games was hosted jointly by North and South Lanarkshire Councils. This was the first time that the world's biggest youth sporting event had been hosted in Scotland. A total of 1,300 competitors and coaches representing 77 cities from 33 countries worldwide had a great time competing and making lots of new friends during their stay in Lanarkshire for the International Olympic Committee-recognised 3 day event. Competition was spread across many events including Swimming, Tack and Field, Tennis, Sailing, Golf, Badminton, Judo and Volleyball. These were held at various locations across North and South Lanarkshire. Two new/refurbished facilities that Thorn supplied the lighting for where competition was held were - South Lanarkshire Council - Dollan Aqua Centre, East Kilbride As part of a multi million pound refurbishment of the centre, re opened in May’2011, new pool lighting was installed to provide illuminance levels suitable for international sports competition, with switching options to provide suitable levels for general leisure swimming. Our 400w Troika flat glass range of floods, installed as uplights, have been successfully used and provided excellent crisp white lighting with great uniformity, and glare free viewing for spectators and lifeguards alike. Suspended from purpose build frames, the light from the Troikas was reflected off a special highly reflective material stretched below the original ceiling. In addition our Qba LED floodlights were used in an unusual manner. They provided powerful, instant emergency lighting fed off a local central battery system, ensuring maintenance is kept to a minimum. North Lanarkshire Council - Ravenscraig Sports Facility, Motherwell The new state-of-the art £32 million Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility opened its doors to the public on Thursday 30th September 2010.
We would like to congratulate all participants who took part in all competitions and wish them well for a long sporting future. In addition we would like to thank both North and South Lanarkshire Councils for their kind permission in using the source photography. |
