Cardinal Place, Victoria, London
This new complex has become a huge public draw after being redeveloped with a mix of offices, shops and restaurants. Air-handling lighting is a feature within the offices. Special 750mm x 750mm recessed luminaires, employ 14W T16 lamps and central louvres.
Performance
Most important here as the lighting design philosophy was to create an indirect/direct recessed luminaire, with an air extract capability to blend with the ceiling system. The luminaires in-corporate slots with plenum boxes for air extract and supply respectively. The task illuminance is satisfied with good uniformity
Efficiency
The buildings have been awarded a BREEAM ‘very good’ rating for energy efficiency (12W/Sq m).
Comfort
The lighting is pleasantly subdued with no glare. There is modelling of worker’s faces and a good CRF (Contrast Rendering Factor) for visibility of detail within tasks.
Design – the luminaires integrate with the special perforated metal tiled ceiling.
Architects – EPR for the building and RHWL for the interior
