Thorn named as finalist for CIBSE Building Performance Award
The Charted Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) awards recognise the importance of lighting within the built environment and its impact on energy consumption. The focus is on engineering excellence demonstrated by actual, measured performance, not design intent or performance specifications. The multistore refurbishment for Wm Morrisons was driven by a target to reduce energy expenditure by £17 million while maintaining high quality lighting. Thorn responded with a bespoke retrofit LED luminaire which could be easily mounted into the existing 20-year-old Thorn system.
The benefits of the bespoke luminaire are significant:
- Annual energy saving of 70%
- Annual cost saving of £32.271.85 per store
- Payback time of just 2,6 years
- Annual CO2 saving of 195 t
- Luminaires designed for sustainability and end of life recycling
Kevin Evans, Retail End User Key Account Manager, says: "Thorn is dedicated to designing and manufacturing energy efficient lighting. We work closely with our customers to develop lighting solutions that not only reduce energy consumption but also improve lighting performance. We are delighted to see our efforts recognised by making the finals of the prestigious CIBSE Awards and look forward to the award ceremony next month."
The winner of the Lighting for Building Performance award will be announced at the annual CIBSE Building Performance Awards ceremony in London on Tuesday 10 February.
