Thorn has supplied lighting solutions for various facilities and buildings in the run-up to the sporting events in Sochi. The total order volume for these projects amounts to 3.5 million Euro. As one of the leading outdoor lighting manufacturers, Thorn provides high quality lighting for some of the events.

"These projects in Sochi demonstrate Thorn's huge potential in the outdoor lighting field. We see the further expansion of our position in the outdoor lighting market as a sporting challenge, and not just in the context of Sochi," says Ulrich Schumacher, CEO of the Zumtobel Group.

Outdoor lighting with energy-efficient LED technology

The projects which Thorn has completed in Sochi include the skiing resort "Alpica Service" with two terminals and three connection stations, two railway stations of "Adler station" and "Olympic park station", hotels, the "Biathlon track", the skiing and snowboard "Freestyle park", parts of the "Bolshoy Ice Dome" as well as the street lighting for a central link road. Thorn's lighting solutions for the sports facilities and various infrastructure projects were largely based on energy-efficient LED luminaires.

From the cable car to the freestyle park

The rope way "Alpica Service" links the "Alpica Service" rail station with the "Psekhako" ski area. Thorn equipped rope lines, stations and technical zones for the most part with LED luminaries and floodlights. In the case of the new rail station in the district of Adler "Alpica Service", "Esto-Sadok" Thorn employed façade illumination to accentuate the architecture of the new building. All the outdoor areas belonging to this central transport hub were also equipped with energy-efficient LED street lights from Thorn. In addition to the biathlon track and the "Bolshoy Ice Dome", Thorn also provided the lighting for the "Rosa Khutor Extreme Park". High-performance floodlights were used to ensure perfect illumination for the world's top skiers and snowboarders.

As a supplier of outdoor and indoor lighting, Thorn has been established in the Russian market for over 20 years. Thorn's Russian team is located with offices in St. Petersburg and Moscow.
